My Beige with 10.4.10 seems to be having some PCI card issues. I can't get any Firewire cards to mount and optical or HD's at all in OS X. The devices all show up in System Profiler, so the card is working enough to identify the peripheral device and its chipset, but no media will mount, and nothing shows in any disk utilities that might assist in mounting.
It may be a PCI issue also, since I tried a faster ethernet PCI card, hoping to get faster networking speeds, but surprisingly the speeds were slower? About every other boot the ethernet card wouldn't connect? I removed it, just in case it was the cause, but it wasn't.
I don't know what to do. I've changed Firewire cards and that doesn't help. They all work fine in OS 9, and not at all in OS X. Perhaps I've upgraded too far, and 10.4.10 has a PCI bug ?

It may be due to power supply or something failing on your motherboard. My original 8500 was horrible writing to/mounting FW devices. After I got another 8500 I found out that it didn't have any trouble working with FW devices. Also, it could be your accelerator card interacting with failing/old components (old 8500 worked great with a G3 (4XMHz) upgrade from PowerLogix, but had lots of problems with the G4 (50MHz)).
I just tried it with my 8500 with 10.4.10 and it works mounting an old 5GB FireFly device (powered through the FW cable). _________________ 8500; G4/800MHz; 896MB
