Power Tower Pro running a Sonnet G4 card and OSX Panther via XPostFacto was up and running one moment and then just "went away."
The PTP was happily running OSX as usual on the digital side of a Viewsonic monitor I share with my G4, and when I switched from the analog (second monitor for the G4) to the digital (the PTP) I got a black screen and an unresponsive machine, so I have no idea what happened while the machine was running. I just shut the unit down and left town on a recent trip, hoping to rectify the situation when I returned. But I have had NO luck resuscitating it since I got back.
I have pulled and re-seated cards, blown out the dust bunnies, hit the CUDA and replaced the PRAM battery. Nothing. Or, to be more specific, the same thing:
The unit starts when I press the Power key on the ADB extended keyboard, the keyboard lights flicker momentarily, the fan starts and at least one of the internal drives sounds like it's spinning up for a moment, but... nothing. No video, no startup "bong!" Nothing. Nothing but the PS fan seems to be spinning. And no luck trying to start from a CD or holding the mouse button down to select a different startup drive. Nor any combination of keys for PRAM or OF or anything.
At this point -- and after such a long time since I last cracked open the case or used this machine for much more than web surfing or file serving -- I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue, a software issue, related to the G4 card or XPF or what. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Bill W.

I don't understand this setup? To start with, which OS version on the PTP? Second, I'm assuming you're talking about analog vs. digital meaning VGA port vs. DVI port on the monitor? How many monitors? You're "sharing" a monitor by using separate ports from the two computers to the same monitor, and then using a button on the monitor to select which port is active? What's the video card?
This sounds like a hardware issue to me, perhaps a partially blown power supply. I'd get a multimeter and start checking the line voltages from the power supply.
No bong - could be dodgy RAM. Or maybe the processor's given up? _________________ PowerMac 7300; xlr8 G3 500; 1Gb RAM; Seagate 18Gb internal HD with 9.2.2, internal Seagate 18Gb with OS 8.6, external SCSI Seagate 18Gb with OSX (10.3.9).
