|
|
I installed Panther on an external drive some time ago (not sure how long back!) and it all ran perfectly. I also now have a G5 so I wiped the external drive to install OS922 as a system 9 disc for the G5.
The G5 has stopped working and refuses to boot. So, as the 7300 is still working perfectly, if rather slowly by comparison, I decided to reinstall Panther on the external drive again.
But ... it didn't go as smoothly as before and when the OSX welcome screen came up I couldn't get any further than the registration screen; the continue button got me nowhere.
I originally installed Panther with XPF version 3, if I remember rightly and version 4 is on the 7300 hard drive.
So I thought I'd come back and get version 3 and try again - but where are the XPF downloads? _________________ PowerMac 7300; xlr8 G3 500; 1Gb RAM; Seagate 18Gb internal HD with 9.2.2, internal Seagate 18Gb with OS 8.6, external SCSI Seagate 18Gb with OSX (10.3.9). |

Bonjour Famille Ferguson !
XPF version 3 is here for you http://public.me.com/francisderive
However, it is not so much tight to Panther because the Panther disk archive I found had already XPF version 4.

Alas, nothing worked.
I wiped everything and stared again from scratch, downloading XPF version 4 and installing Panther - which went as far as the "choose your keyboard" page and then froze..
Anyone have any bright ideas, please?
The G5 was fixed, by the way - one of its two CPUs failed. That was in May.
This week a CPU failed in the G5, so it's out of action again, and I"m back to the 7300 - which, slow as it may be, is still running. _________________ PowerMac 7300; xlr8 G3 500; 1Gb RAM; Seagate 18Gb internal HD with 9.2.2, internal Seagate 18Gb with OS 8.6, external SCSI Seagate 18Gb with OSX (10.3.9). |

Following a suggestion made concerning Leopard I went back to the problem and deleted everything with XPF and XPostFacto (including invisible files). I then initialised the destination drive, got the latest version of XPF from here and tried again.
And it worked.
So I'm just updating the OS to 10.3.9 and we're back in business. _________________ PowerMac 7300; xlr8 G3 500; 1Gb RAM; Seagate 18Gb internal HD with 9.2.2, internal Seagate 18Gb with OS 8.6, external SCSI Seagate 18Gb with OSX (10.3.9). |
